It's a city set between mountains Vrontous and Menoiko and crossed from river "Strymon"
The city is great for nature lovers because it is consisted by numerous natural landscapes includind mountains,forests,rivers and the beautiful artificial lake of Kerkini.
But if the scenic beauty of the place is already a point, another are the places of historical importance, such as the archaeological Museum, a building built in the late 1400s during the Ottoman era.
Inside there are finds that go from the prehistoric age to the Hellenistic age, with finds of Roman origin, others instead concerning the Ottoman past of the city.
In short, a place full of the echo of the great past of the city.
But the city also has an important military past, and to witness it we find Fort Roupel, an outpost built in 1914 that saw the succession of two world wars.
Currently it can be visited as a museum, where visitors can observe reconstructions of what happened in the fort during the critical hours of war.
